Beginning the Adventure

I leave in just three short weeks for Africa. This has been a trip in the making for over 15 months. Traveling with my friend Jane and her sister-in-law and hubby; we will enjoy 12 days on safari in Kenya & Tanzania. Game drives and lodging in the bush include many world famous locales including the Masai Mara, Tsavo West, Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti.

We have high expectations of seeing Africa's "big five" . . . lions, elephants, cape buffalo, leopards and rhinos . . . but also others that Africa is known for including giraffe, cheetah, baboons and hyena. No trip to the East Africa would be complete without witnessing the migration of wildebeest and zebra from the parched Serengeti into the Masai Mara through crocodile invested waters of the river that must be forged to seek food.

Every day, all living creatures wake up on the run . . . running to catch their next meal or running to avoid being someone else's! Life and death will be seen first hand throughout this adventure.

Here is a rough outline of our safari itinerary:

Kenya
Masai Mara - 3 nights
Lake Nakuru - 1 night
Amboseli - 2 nights
Tanzania
Lake Manyara - 1 night
Serengeti - 2 nights
Ngorongoro - 1 night
Kenya
Tsavo West - 1 night

Prior to our safari, I am planning to spend a nice weekend enjoying many of the sights of Nairobi, known as the Safari Capital of East Africa. Local stops will include the Karen Blixen Museum, Giraffe Centre, David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, Kazuri Bead Factory and Nairobi National Park.

I hope to have Internet connection frequent enough to do some blogging while out in the African bush. I'm told we may have access every few days/nights but from what I can tell, I doubt it. Once I leave Nairobi, I don't think I will have access until I return back for departure home.
